The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is recruiting a Conservation Pilot – Cameroon Program to support conservation, aerial surveillance, anti-poaching operations and logistics in northern Cameroon. WCS is a US-based conservation organization established in 1895. Its work covers wildlife conservation, scientific research, protected-area management and community-focused conservation initiatives across numerous countries. WCS confirms that its global conservation program includes Cameroon and the wider Sudano-Sahel region.
What Will the Conservation Pilot Do?
The successful candidate will provide professional aviation support to conservation operations in northern Cameroon.
Key responsibilities include conducting aerial patrols supporting law enforcement and anti-poaching operations, assisting with aerial wildlife and ecological monitoring, and providing logistical aviation support.
The pilot will also be responsible for maintaining high aviation safety standards, keeping accurate flight records, ensuring aircraft documentation remains current and coordinating aircraft maintenance with the WCS Aviation Fleet Manager and Maintenance Manager.
Other duties include managing aviation stocks such as fuel and oil, maintaining the hangar and aviation facilities, monitoring the condition of the airstrip and managing survey and surveillance equipment.
The position goes beyond simply flying an aircraft. WCS is seeking someone who can contribute to developing a professional, safety-centred aviation operation supporting the conservation project’s wider objectives.
Who Can Apply?
This is an advanced aviation position with strict qualification requirements.
Applicants must have:
- A current FAA Commercial Pilot License with Instrument Rating
- An FAA Second-Class Medical Certificate
- At least 400 hours of Pilot-in-Command (PIC) flying experience
- Strong knowledge of FAA regulations
- High-performance piston-engine experience
- Preferably experience with a C206 or similar aircraft
- Fluency in English and French
Experience working in Africa, particularly Francophone Africa, will be an advantage. WCS also values candidates with experience in wildlife surveys, anti-poaching surveillance, remote-area bush flying, FAR Part 135 operations or an FAA A&P license.
Because the position is based in a challenging and remote field environment, applicants must also be prepared and motivated to live and work in such conditions.
How to Apply
Conservation Pilot – Cameroon Program
Applicants should prepare an updated CV/resume and a cover letter demonstrating their aviation qualifications, relevant flying experience, conservation or bush-flying exposure and ability to work safely in remote environments.
Final Note for Applicants
This is not an entry-level pilot vacancy. The FAA licensing requirements, PIC-hour threshold, aircraft experience and remote-field responsibilities make it particularly suitable for experienced commercial pilots.
For qualified candidates, however, the position offers a rare opportunity to use professional aviation skills directly in wildlife protection and conservation operations in Cameroon.
